The Buzz is a regular summary of housing market news and data driving our decision-making at BlueBid.

Here's the Buzz for the week of April 8, 2025:

  • CNBC observes mortgage rates sinking on tariff news, but housing costs are still near a record high.

  • In a move that's separate from other widely reported tariffs, the US plans to more than double duties on Canadian lumber imports. Builders claim tariffs on lumber and other building material could raise the average cost of a home by $9,200, according to CNN.

  • U.S. News & World Report breaks down exactly how long it takes to sell a house in the United States in 2025.

  • The National Association of Realtors says baby boomers have overtaken millennials – the largest US generation by population – to become the top generation of home buyers. A recent NAR report says half of older boomers and 40% of younger boomers are purchasing homes entirely with cash, while the percentage of transactions attributed to first-time buyers fell from 32% to 24% in the last year.

Have a great week.
